ADVICOR is a once-a-day pill to manage your cholesterol.
Along with a healthy diet and regular exercise, ADVICOR® (niacin extended-release/lovastatin tablets) at its maximum dose can help you:
- Lower “bad” LDL cholesterol up to 42 percent
- Raise “good” HDL cholesterol up to 30 percent
- Lower triglycerides up to 44 percent
Once-a-day ADVICOR is a prescription medication that effectively treats LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
Different goals for different kinds of cholesterol
When your doctor says your cholesterol is high, this usually means the level of LDL cholesterol is high. High LDL cholesterol raises your risk of heart disease.
Cholesterol includes more than just LDL cholesterol. There are two other “lipids,” (a kind of fat in the blood) along with LDL cholesterol that are important in managing your cholesterol: HDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
Like LDL cholesterol, high triglyceride levels may raise your health risks.
Unlike LDL cholesterol, high levels of HDL cholesterol help protect you from heart disease. In fact, having low levels of HDL cholesterol actually raises your risk of heart disease. When it comes to HDL, the higher, the better.
