ADVICOR® (niacin extended-release/lovastatin tablets) is a prescription cholesterol medication that combines two effective drugs in one pill, to help normalize your LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
ADVICOR works two ways. It significantly lowers “bad” cholesterol levels and it raises “good” cholesterol levels. That’s important, because improving your cholesterol levels has been shown to help reduce the risk of heart disease. ADVICOR has not been shown to prevent heart disease or heart attacks.

ADVICOR contains
- Lovastatin, a statin medication that significantly lowers LDL cholesterol, the “bad” cholesterol that can build up on the walls of your arteries and increase your risk of heart disease.
- Niaspan, a prescription medication that significantly raises HDL cholesterol. HDL is the “good” cholesterol that helps lower the risk of heart disease.
Why it’s important to manage your cholesterol levels
Lowering high levels of LDL cholesterol is important, and is one of the first things your doctor will do to help lower your risk of heart disease.
Studies show that raising low levels of HDL cholesterol is good for you. Raising HDL by 10 points can lower risk by about half.
